Weird as it sounds, Englishmen once ruled as rajahs in what is now the Malaysian state of Sarawak. The 'White Rajahs' of Sarawak ruled from the 1840s till 1946, beginning with the rakish British adventurer James (who pried Sarawak away from Brunei under the not-so-subtle threat of force), and ending with his great-nephew Vyner, who ceded the territory to Britain as a crown colony.
