Timing your trip to the miraculous pyramids carefully is crucial. The high season extends from mid-October to May, and this is when you will find the weather most agreeable. Summer, for those from non-desert locales, can be brutally hot. While the weather is still warm, crowds flock to the pyramids, and you will contend with much higher prices for accommodations.
If you can brave the heat, visiting between May and October may be ideal. The pyramids are relatively quiet: tour groups are typically slower during this off-season, and the pyramids will not be frequented by school children in the area. One more consideration to keep in mind: Egypt celebrates the holy month of Ramadan, and this impacts the availability of attractions. Restaurants and shops will typically be closed throughout the day, as the Muslims fast, and no alcohol is served. However, this can be a great time to experience the festive atmosphere that comes when the fast is broken at night.
To glimpse the Egypt of your imagination, Giza is a must. Egypt boasts over 100 pyramids, and the majority does not offer the grandeur of those in Giza. Joining a guided tour is a great way to experience the area, and you can find many that also offer other excursions, including trips down the Nile.
