Things You See on a Road Trip: Fluctuating Gas Prices: "

All this week, we're taking a road trip. The only difference between this and a regular road trip is that we're not leaving the road; instead, we're looking all the little things you overlook while driving long distances, but that make the road trip experience complete. Have a favorite thing you look for on the road too? Let us know!

What's the one topic you can always bring up to start a conversation with a stranger on the road? Gas prices, duh. Want to make a new friend at a rest stop (in a non-risque way, we mean) or chat up fellow line-waiters at an amusement park? Just ask them about the current unleaded gasoline price where they're from.

Today, in an average US city, you'll pay about $2.62 for one gallon, but up in Canada it's closer to $4.30 and let's not even start on gas prices in Europe. It's a good, blue-collar conversation and a change from talking about the weather. We use it to segue into conversation with strangers about their road travels, and as a sneaky way to glean some tips from locals.
