Torremolinos beach: now and then: "
Today, Torremolinos, a resort town where the key attraction is the beach on Mediterranean Sea, is a prime travel destination on the Costa del Sol of Spain.
I don't know if the town has an official slogan, but if it doesn't, I have an idea for one. It should be "Torremolinos: We're all about the beach". That's my suggestion because Torremolinos has kilometers and kilometers of resort-lined beachfront. And for those moments where one needs a siesta from siesta-ing, Torremolinos has more restaurants and bars than can be imagined.
With the steady flow of tourists from all over Europe, USA and beyond, Torremolinos has evolved into a popular beach resort holiday destination with a wide selection of hotels. Some really good bargains can be found, especially if you don't need anything fancy. Who needs fancy hotels anyways? I'd spend my whole day on the beach, enjoying relaxing days on the Costa del Sol beaches and then fun filled evenings in the beachfront restaurants and bars.
As you can almost see in the aerial photo below, the beach is lined with lounge chairs and umbrellas. No need to bring anything but sunscreen, towels and a bathing suit. The chairs are for rent and vendors offer food and drinks.
Torremolinos is easy to get to. Most visitors just fly into nearby Malaga Airport and then either take a taxi or rent a car and drive to Torremolinos.
Torremolinos photos from 30 years ago
Even 30 years ago, Torremolinos was still all about the beach. I have all kinds of old Torremolinos postcards in my collection. Most are from around 1980 or the 1970s. I've scanned a few and added them to the Torremolinos photo gallery. Click the images to be shown the full-sized version of the old Spain postcard.
