WELL DONE TREE FOUNDATION

More Good News to read!...

WELL DONE TREE FOUNDATION: "
The TREE Foundation, spearheaded by an inspirational Supraja Darhini, has for the first time in Indian history released two Olive Ridley turtles from Chennai with satellite transmitters on their backs. This is brilliant news, why?

. Data pertaining to the movement of animals helps in ultimately protecting them. With regards to marine turtles, mortalities are often attributed to fishing activities, whereby turtles drown in nets or on hooks deployed on long lines. Drift nets and gill nets are particularly dangerous, so understanding where the turtles are swimming may provide insight as how to control or where/when to control fishing activities in specific areas. Such research has proved vital in other parts of the world, Gabon for example.

. The data can provide migration routes provided the device remains active over the battery life stipulated. Satellite tagging has become a popular tool in marine resource management and it is a fantastic and brilliant initiative by the TREE FOUNDATION in southern India.

Supraja and her team and inspiring individuals who have challenged the complexities of conservation on their own, and are now slowely increasing their awareness and educational programs to the greater community. A life long passion the TREE FOUNDATION should be an example of inspriation in highlighting the power of each and every individual who is willing to take the initiative.
