5 Alternative Winter Escape Destinations: "

Now that we’re quickly approaching the end of the year, winter is slowly creeping in on us. For those who can’t bear the thought of short daylight hours and the bitter cold, it’s time to plan your travels to exotic, far-flung regions. But that doesn’t necessarily mean tropical islands and tourist-cluttered resorts, think unique, out-of-this-world experiences in less trodden destinations. While winter’s hitting us the Northern Hemisphere at this time of the year, the blazing sun’s out in the Southern Hemisphere, let’s take a look at where’s best to escape winter this year

Australia

For ultimate adventures and indulgence in nature, holidays to Australia definitely wouldn’t disappoint. Few places in the world can beat Australia’s myriad of natural spots and adventurous activities – scuba dive the Great Barrier Reef, then skydive in Sydney, and go bush-walking in the outback – Kakadu National Park. For those looking for more relaxing activities than outdoor sports, you can opt for Australia package holidays that include leisure farm stays, visits to nature parks and wineries.

Argentina

As one of the biggest countries in South America, Argentina is chocked full of diverse landscapes only worthy of superlative descriptions. With natural wonders that hit the right sensory glands, you can feed your craving for all things natural here in one country. Go ice-climbing down south in Patagonia, or wine and dine in Buenos Aires, or even soak in the tropical terrain of the majestic Iguazu Falls. What’s best, winter in the Northern Hemisphere means it’s hot hot hot in most parts of Argentina!

Tanzania

Thanks to the proximity between East Africa and Europe, this continent makes for an excellent winter escape destination. Come winter, venture out to the savannahs and plains of Tanzania and you’ll find the warmest people and wildest nature. This East African nation is bursting with thrilling outdoors opportunities ideal for the solo traveler. Go trekking on the highest peak in Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro or hop on a wildlife jeep safari to spot the Big Five and end your trip underwater, swimming with turtles on Zanzibar Island. The weather is almost always sunny and warm.

Morocco

As one of the most visited North African countries, Morocco has always been a favorite among European tourists, since it’s just a short-haul flight away. Bridging Africa and the world, the country brings the isolated Sahara deserts and the high Atlas Mountains close to you. Get wonderfully lost in Marrakech’s endless souks, or surf the huge waves along the Atlantic Coast in Essaouira and then hop onto a camel and venture into the Sahara. To get there, catch a ferry from the tip of Spain or fly Easyjet from London.

Jordan

Amongst the Arabic nations, Jordan is tops on my personal favorite list – especially in terms of ease of travel, stunning sights and proximity to Europe. Float in the Dead Sea in the north and then head down south to explore the archaeological sites of Petra and then hop on a camel safari through Wadi Rum desert. Unlike neighboring Egypt or Israel, the country is yet to be over-run by tourism and still retains a tinge of authenticity. To see a real peek into the Middle Eastern world, Jordan would be a great start.
