World's Most Unique Hotels: "
If you fancy bizarre and unique travel adventures, you have to try a night or two in the world's strangest hotels. Be it ice or salt complexes, candy-pink rooms for a Barbie doll or underwater, floating cabins, these lodging options are very far from what we normally call a standard.
1. Ice Hotel
Staying at Ice Hotel is an absolutely unique experience. The hotel, located in Jukkasjärvi, Sweden is the oldest and the largest ice and snow complex in the world. Covering 5,500 sq m, the hotel is built each winter anew and the season 2010/2011 will be its 21st edition.
2. Cave Hotels. Turkey.
The legendary cave hotels in the Turkish region of Cappadocia are one of the most extraordinary hotel complexes on the globe. The suits have been carved out of soft volcanic rocks that cover the entire region. In the past, the rock shelters were used as houses, churches and monasteries.
3. Hello Kitty
You must be a true Hello Kitty fan to stay in this villa dedicated entirely to the cute plush creature. The pink hotel filled with Hello Kitty items, from wallpaper to toilet accessories, is located in Taipei, the capital of Taiwan.
4. Burj Al Arab
Standing on an artificial island in Dubai, the Burj Al Arab is a striking construction that was designed to resemble the sail of a dhow, a type of Arabian vessel. Rising 321 m (1,053 ft), the 7-star hotel is the second tallest hotel building in the world, surpassed only by the Rose Tower, also in Dubai.
5. Salt Hotel
The world's only hotel made of salt is located in Bolivia, near the famous Uyuni salt desert. This outstanding complex emerged in 1993 and since then, it has been attracting a considerable number of tourists willing to stay in this one of a kind hotel, whose roof, beds, chairs, tables and bar are made entirely of salt.
6. Woodlyn Park Motels
Woodlyn Park in Waitomo, New Zealand is home to bizarre lodging options. You can choose from a selection of unique hotels such as a Bristol Fighter plane or a hobbit hole. The Hobbit complexes are all self-contained with kitchens and own showers. Also, a Bristol Freighter from the 1950s has been fully refurbished into two self contained motel units. The park also has train and ship motels.
7. Utter Inn
The unique art project created by Mikael Genberg is an underwater hotel room entered through a Swedish-style red house. Called the Utter Inn, the complex floats on Lake Malaren in Sweden and provides amazing views of the underwater world.
