Just a quick pic of the people we meet that are doing great work:: "
Hold your heads up high chaps, you are doing great work and we respect you for it:
Anian, China: Working on replanting the riverbank with Sheoak trees to try re-establish biodiversity in the area. The initiative is his and the finances are personal. His work is born out of a passion and he is committed to environmental change in China…. a tough task.
Mat, WAR, Vietnam. Mat has worked on building the wildlife sanctuary for WAR in Saigon Vietnam. He is passionate about the natural environment and his passion is contagious.
The Green wild team at the Xiamen university and the director of the China Mangrove Conservation Network, Yi (on the left of Mike) stand in the small university club house. We discussed student involvement in mangrove conservation, at it was fantastic. Keep the dream, it is worth it.
A local from a fishing village in China who has used the China Mangrove Conservation Network to re plant the mangroves in front of his house. Tourists can now come to the island and visit his family, sleep in the house, experience local fishing activities, live with the family and experience local Chinese lifestyles…. they also plant mangroves helping to strengthen the environment against typhoon damage and create habitat for fish and bird species…. Great initiative, alternative incomes can be made, they are a solution if we all just think a little.
The former head of the WWF Hong Kong marine program has decided that for effective marine management and conservation in Hong Kong to be successful, one needs an economist, not a biologist…. its a money game. Guillermo has decided to move to Indonesia and work at grass root level with communities on bettering sustainable use of resources. He is an inspiration and is dedicated towards positive change. We hope to visit you someday soon in Indonesia and help where we can.
Well lastly Linda and I on a rare day off at the Great Wall of Rip-off, sorry I mean China.
IT IS FUNNY HOW MANY GOOD PEOPLE THERE ARE OUT THERE IF YOU JUST HAVE A LOOK
(We are putting together portraits of all the inspiring folks we have met during our expedition and will post them soon).
