Denmark, Copenhagen: there were dreams rise: "

To visit Copenhagen special occasion isn’t needed. The beautiful joyful city at sea coast is good by itself. To be here is pleasure, and there are many things to look at. And this spring the trip is twice justified: the capital of Denmark prepares for grandiose festival in honor of the 200 anniversary from the date of Hans Christian Andersen’s birth. From March, 31st till April 3rd members of the Danish royal family will gather in Copenhagen, the invited celebrities and simply people, wishing even for a short while to return to the times of their own childhood. To think over properly, each of us has already been in this city. Together with fantastic heroes we wandered on medieval streets, floated on channels and looked in windows of royal palaces. So why not to freshen memoirs and not to walk across Copenhagen once again, really?

One of the main events of celebrations — the Big carnival which practically simultaneously will pass in Copenhagen and in the city of Odense where Andersen was born. It is more logical to visit the Copenhagen carnival at least because here Hans Christian spent the most part of his life. He often repeated that there will be no city, there wouldn’r be its fairy – tales, and the date of the arrival was marked here as the second birthday. Besides in capital scope of actions is always wider. For the anniversary here an exhibition under the name “Magic fairy tale” has been prepared. Specially for it in city center, near to Rosenborg castle, they constructed a building in the form of the huge slightly opened book. Come inside. In an environment of the things belonging to the great storyteller, you will hear the fascinating story about the events which pushed the son of the poor shoemaker to creating stories, glorifying it for the whole world.

The place for an exhibition is chosen not casually. The affinity of the former country residence of king Christian IV strengthens the magic atmosphere reigning here during lifetime of Andersen. The castle was constructed in the XVII-th century and since then it has remained almost unchanged. Now it is opened for visitors. In a smart hall the royal throne surrounded with three silver lions is exposed, and in a royal treasury it is possible to see family jewelry, some of which nowadays reigning Margrete II puts on till now.

Round a palace there is a fine garden where Hans Christian quite often came to admire roses and swans in a pond. Who can observe here wonderful transformations of clumsy baby birds into graceful white birds, he once conceived “the Disgusting duckling”. In the XIX-th century one of two monuments to the great writer was established here with an inscription “Will erect the Danish people”.

Other monument, later, but also more known, is near to the Town hall, behind the fountain. Andersen with a cane and in the cylinder observes the movement of cars, people and bicycles on the brisk highway named by his name. The sculpture is adored by children and tourists. Constantly getting to the storyteller “on handles”, they have polished its bronze knees to shine.

Mix up with cheerful multinational crowd, and the foot street Stroget will deduce you on the spacious area of Kongens-Njutorv. Except the academy of Arts occupying a palace of Sharlottenborg, the Royal theater here is located. The dream of glory of the actor at this theater enticed fourteen-year Hans Christian from native Odense. The young man had the three-stage plan of conquest of a scene. A stage number one — singing. In case of failure followed resort to the second point — to dances. And only after two failures about what, according to Andersen, at its endowments couldn’t be the drama followed. But singing was broken because of teenage withdrawal pains of a voice when its gentle youthful soprano turned in “duckling”. And as an actor Andersen managed to play only the Troll. This image appeared so convincing that he began to designate glory of the great comedian. But, being exposed to sneers in real life, the young man didn’t want to become a professional clown. Reluctantly he moved to literature. And this time he hit the mark. Who knows whether his talent would be shown to the full if not misadventures at Royal theater.

About where there lived Hans Christian, remind on Copenhagen Njuhavn (New quay) memorial boards on houses 18, 20 and 67. A surprising place by its beauty — the city card. The narrow channel dug in a XVII-th century to connect the center of capital to the sea. Along the channel seamen have lodged. In XVIII-XIX centuries Njuhavn became a trade center. Colored small houses, many of which were witnesses of events of those days for three hundred years. Now this is a place of taverns — charming cafes, on water the ancient wooden sailing vessels transformed into restaurants and pleasure institutions are moored.

From here it is possible to go on an excursion on a walking boat by channels and to reach the well-known “Water-nymph” — the most touching monument to Andersen’s creativity. As I have wirtten previously for sevveral times the statue in the XX-th century beginning was created by sculptor Edward Eriksen, then got to Charles Jakobsen, the owner of ”Carlsberg” factory, the patron of art presented it to the city. Since then the destiny of bronze “Water-nymph” develops not easier, than its prototype’s. Continually villains cut off to it a head or pour the hand. And sometimes simply steal and carry away in an unknown direction. But for the period of celebrations special safety measures are taken, and tourists can admire this lovely girl sitting on a stone in expectation of the prince.

And remember a fairy tale “Ognivo”? A witch, sending the soldier to a hollow, warns him: “at a dog that sits there on a chest, an eye — everyone about the Round tower”. A round tower is another symbol of Copenhagen. A high building, in which there is an observatory. Upward rise on a helicoid ramp on foot or on a bicycle. The tower under the order all the same Christian IV is constructed. It drew the sketch of a gold emblem with own hand, and now decorates a facade.

Outside of capital, in the city of Elsinor, there is one more place described by Andersen in detail. Re-read before a trip “Holberg the Dane” — and you will always remember an ancient legend about a giant sleeping in a vault of Kronborg Castle. “It all is chained from iron and a steel and props up a head mighty hands. Its long beard has strongly grown to a marble board of a table. He sleeps and dreams about everything that becomes in Denmark”. In case of danger mighty Holberg is ready to leave a vault and to wave a sword, protecting the native land.

Well here, perhaps, and all for today about the sights of Copenhagen connected with a name of the remarkable storyteller. To orient faster, order a sightseeing tour. So you will bring to nothing the loss of time connected by that some places are opened for visiting at strictly certain o’clock, and the schedule change depending on a season. Pass on traces of fantastic heroes, go in Elsinor you won’t regret. And then — relax on the full. Perhaps you will want to try fresh beer at “Carlsberg” factory together with Danish sandwiches, and can, descend in глиптотеку or a sex Museum. Or to you to liking parks and lakes? All these is Copenhagen too. Days here fly quickly, and are remembered for a long time. What fairy-tales will you tell to your friends after arrival, depends only on you.

Happy travel!
