Modern Danish traditions

More on GOOD NEWS!...

Modern Danish traditions: "

By quantity of strong marriages Denmark can be compared even to the Muslim countries. Though people here usually marry late: till 30 years they don’t hasten to get married, they may simply live together, – but if they dare to marriage, this is, as a rule, for whole life.

Speak, last years in many European countries Danish husbands are in fashion. Quiet, purposeful, reliable. But for a Dane to acquire the right to marry a foreigner, he should be socially secured, is obliged to give pledge in 50 thousand crones (it is more than six thousand dollars) and to have an apartment big enough where the future wife and children can live. Besides, recently Denmark has accepted new integration rules on which term of reception of constant residence permit is prolonged till seven years. Some consider these rules draconian, say, now poor men can’t marry foreigners. But at the same time such rules protect women-foreigners in Denmark.

From her part a foreign girl who has decided to change her habitual life with Danish family values, should also imagine what is expected. Besides the fact that it will be necessary to master not so easy Danish language, she should get used to completely different relations.

By the way, in Denmark the foreigners who have arrived on a constant residence are trained Danish language free of charge and even textbooks , books, dictionaries are given to them free of charge. To many people who have weaned from such social blessings, it seems surprising. But here there are other courses of different kinds – from language and sports to psychological trainings. The payment for the latter is insignificant, and the state pays extra. At Danes in general it is accepted to attend various courses – here everybody studies all – young and old, and they study everything that is possible to think up! Visiting such kind of trainings is some kind of a proof for associates that you aspire to self-improvement and you are ready to spend your personal time on this.

Only, there are no courses of adaptation to the Danish way of life. And for many foreigners it appears to be a rather difficult process. Many of them, eve living there for a long time long time admit that till now they feel themselves strangers here.

Danes are one of the most legislative people in the world, except for, perhaps, Danish motorists. All pay huge taxes and almost don’t complain, after all thanks to “brutal” system of the taxation the Danish society is arranged so that the majority of its requirements is satisfied on the public account. All functions at time – the bus approaches the stop precisely under the schedule, the computer instantly finds the book that you need, health services are free in library at all levels, it is not necessary to pay for trainings up to university, and some students also have obligatory grants and scholarships. The aspiration to provide everyone on their requirements – both material, and moral, in effect, also defines the well-being of a society – welfare state which Danes are very proud of.

Denmark is the leader of the world on the level of security of the population from every possible problems. One of the first she solved the problem of unisex marriages, having refused to the state right to interfere in such an intimate questions of citizens’ private life. Unisex families have the opportunity officially to register their relations, to adopt children and to use the same privileges, as “normal”.

Let’s take eventhe problem of accomodation: for applying for social habitation in Denmark there are no restrictions on age and received incomes. In “the expectation list” even teenagers from 15 years can be registered. And it doesn’t seem strange: at 18 children leave their h0mes and start their lives as independent people. With parents purely friendly relations are maintained, but they neither accept nor give any material aid. However, in the destiny of a mature Dane brothers and sisters play a very big role. it is not considered shameful to address to them for help . Therefore the majority of inhabitants of Denmark name their brothers and sisters as their best friends.

And still the Danish families are distinguished by feeling of a uniform command, mutual assistance. The family does all together: discusses house repair, plans trips for vacation, large purchases. Adults are ready to teach the small everything that they are able to do, without considering it loass of time. Father doesn’t consider shameful to help his son repair something in his room and will obediently paint walls in acid colors if the child has chosen such interior design. Many visitors, truth, notice that the Danish children are sometimes rather spoiled and even rude. The teenager can make a rough remark to the father or mother in the presence of other adults, showing “equality” in a family, and parents will concern it absolutely easy.

Education of children in generalhas its special place in philosophy of a Danish family. It is a fashionable theme for disputes, newspaper articles and popular books. There is a special name to a technique of the Danish family education – “not diffident ripening”. It is considered that, having matured, the child “will be corrected” and will independently master norms of behavior, being guided by public moral. It is necessary to admit that usually it occurs so.

Cast in a typical Danish family differs from that accepted in ither cultures. In Denmark the concepts ”female and man’s duties” are much less divided, all homework is in regular intervals distributed between the husband and the wife. And here in a family men cook more often than women. We may even say that it is an original phenomenon of the Danish family. First, more than 80 % of women here work, the status of housewife even among elderly women is unpopular. Even if money in a family suffices, the idle spouse causes bewilderment of society. It is considered that the woman physically is tired much more, than the working man, and the strong half of Danish society fulfills this version on kitchen. Secondly, each Dane is proud of the fact that he originates from Vikings, the most part of life spending on campaigns, therefore knowing how to cook, to sew and knit not worse than any mistress. So modern Vikings now proudly show the courage in housekeeping.

Danes are consider the most emancipated in the world. Perhaps, here the considerable quantity of feminists concerning the whole population of the country. Why? The history has disposed so. The country wa rulled by for women while men were wandering, therefore they have for a long time ceased to consider themselves weaker than men. Men have got used and perceive it as due, they are quiet and confident – as true Vikings. By the way, since 1972 the Danish kingdom was conducted my women – queen Margrete II.

The majority of the Danish families live in their own houses which pass from father to son. If the house is bought, they choose it long and captiously because they lodge in it, as a rule, for the whole life. First of all in the new house the big table and a flag – the main attributes of the Danish cosiness are bought. A table is the symbol of a united family, and a flag symbolizes happiness. On any holiday tags in a vase necessarily stand on the table, on walls garlands from tags hang and even the pie is decorated by tags!

The most widespread national hobby – to buy and make different hand-made things for the house: napkins, ornaments for walls, windows, beds – the house to be rejoiced. Coming back from travel, the Dane carries gifts not only for members of a family, but also for the house.

If the family breaks up or, owing to different circumstances, the woman remains alone with children this is the event equivalent to a natural disaster. ”Victims” are cared by all social systems, paying the most different grants: single mothers, to children, housing, social… In Denmark in general there is an impression that the more poor the person is and the more difficult is his life condition, the more interesting and more important he/she is for society. The help system aged, to the invalids, mentally sick people and the homeless faultlessly works: services of visitings in-home, doss houses, table, health service points. In Denmark there are no orphanages because a deserted child is almost at once arranged in a foster home. More than adoption, so-called adaptation when the child is brought up and lives in a family is popular here but it is not considered an adopted son or a daughter. So, in Danish families there live children from the countries of Africa and East Asia, including children-invalids.
